History
Astra and Zeneca have steadily been expanding, respectively, in the Japanese market. The paths became one.

1955 Astra AB signs agency contract with Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. In conjunction with launch of Xylocaine in Japan  
1959   ICI UK concludes import and sales agreement with Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.
1974   ICI-Pharma established
1975 Fujisawa-Astra, Ltd. established  
1985   ICI-Pharma Manufacturing Ltd. established
1987   Sanda Plant begins operation
1993   Company names changed from ICI-Pharma Ltd. And ICI-Pharma Manufacturing Ltd. To Zeneca Yakuhin K.K. and Zeneca K.K., respectively
1994 Astra AB increases holding in Fujisawa-Astra to 90% and gains management rights  
1995 Company name changed to Astra Japan K.K. Self-distribution started
1997 Maihara Plant and Distribution Center begin operation  
1998 Self-distribution started

Astra Japan Ltd. and Zeneca K.K. merge to form AstraZeneca K.K. Bruno Angelici appointed President of AstraZeneca K.K.
October 1, 2000
AstraZeneca K.K. and Zeneca Yakuhin K.K. merge
2001 February 1, 2001
Martin Wright appointed President of AstraZeneca K.K.
2004 December 3, 2004
Masuhiro Kato appointed President of AstraZeneca K.K.
